better education
Promote Education Freedom and Choice:
As your District 13 Senator, I am committed to promoting education freedom. Parents should have the ability to choose the best educational opportunities for their children. School funding should follow the student, not the institution. Underprivileged children should never be trapped in underperforming schools. That’s why I support:
- Charter schools as a vital option for families.
- Education savings accounts to cover K-12 education expenses.
- Tax credits for parents and individuals who wish to support school choice programs.
Get Dollars to the Classroom:
While education spending has increased year after year, teacher salaries haven’t kept pace, and student achievement has declined. The reason? Administrative costs have skyrocketed. According to the Common Sense Institute, the ratio of students to public school staff has dropped from 8.65 in 2000 to 7 today. As the Senator for Adams and Weld Counties and District 13, I will work to ensure that education dollars are prioritized for the classroom, where they can directly benefit students and teachers.
Get Our Education System Back to Being the Best on the Planet:
Schools should focus on equipping students with essential skills for the workforce. A strong emphasis on reading, writing, and arithmetic must be the foundation of our education system. To achieve this:
- We must raise standards and expectations for schools.
- Programs and competitions that promote these core skills should be encouraged.
Ensure Transparency:
Classrooms should unite students, not divide them. Political agendas that segregate students by race or ethnicity, or label them as victims or oppressors based on their appearance, have no place in our schools. Schools that violate this principle should be held accountable and called to testify before the Legislature.
Enhance Career Pathways, Vocational Options, and College Entrance Rates:
While college remains a valuable goal, it’s not the right path for everyone. Many students, particularly boys, are opting out of four-year colleges. To ensure every child has a bright future, I will work to:
- Promote vocational, trade, and technical education.
- Expand job training opportunities.
- Make Colorado a national leader in career pathways and workforce readiness.
As the Senator for District 13, representing Adams and Weld Counties and surrounding communities, I am dedicated to ensuring Colorado’s children receive the education they deserve. Through common-sense reforms and bold initiatives, we can create a brighter future for every family.
