Colorado families are facing unprecedented financial strain due to skyrocketing property taxes and rising rents. When lawmakers repealed limits on property tax increases in 2020, the door was opened for punishing hikes that disproportionately harm homeowners and renters. According to the Common Sense Institute, Coloradans could see a 25% increase in property taxes in 2024, which would be devastating for families in Adams and Weld Counties. I will make property tax relief a top priority in the Senate, fighting to protect your hard-earned money and preserve affordability for all.
Defend the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR):
TABOR is a cornerstone of fiscal accountability in Colorado, ensuring that voters have the final say on any proposed tax increases. I stand firmly in support of TABOR and will actively oppose any efforts to undermine it, such as disguising tax hikes as “fees” to bypass voter approval. Additionally, I will fight against Democrat-led attempts to raid TABOR refunds for government spending sprees. Protecting TABOR means protecting taxpayers from unchecked government overreach and ensuring transparency and fairness in how your money is handled.
Cutting the Cost of Health Insurance:
The Colorado Option, a government-run health insurance program passed in 2021, has failed to deliver on its promises. Instead of reducing costs and increasing choices, it has driven up expenses and pushed private insurers out of the state, leaving Coloradans with fewer options and higher premiums.
I believe the solution lies in empowering patients and doctors—not bureaucrats and insurance companies. To lower health insurance costs, I will champion:
- Consumer-driven care through health savings accounts.
- Price transparency so patients know costs upfront.
- Portability of insurance plans, allowing you to keep your coverage regardless of job changes.
- Capping medical malpractice awards to reduce unnecessary “defensive medicine.”
- Reforming Medicaid to enable beneficiaries to buy into the private market.
By addressing the root causes of rising healthcare costs and prioritizing patient choice, we can create a system that works for Colorado families.
In the Senate, I will fight tirelessly to restore affordability, protect taxpayers, and ensure your voice is heard. Colorado’s families deserve better—and I’m ready to deliver real solutions.
