Honoring Our Heroes: How Colorado Can Better Support Veterans This Memorial Day and Beyond

As your representative in the Colorado State Senate District 13, I believe in practical, local solutions that empower our veterans and honor the sacrifices they’ve made for our country.

With Memorial Day upon us, it’s more than a time of remembrance—it’s an opportunity to recommit ourselves to supporting those who’ve served, not just one day a year, but every single day. Let’s work together to ensure Colorado remains a place where our veterans are respected, supported, and never forgotten.

A Look at Current Veteran Support in Colorado

Colorado is home to more than 400,000 veterans, many of whom live right here in Brighton Senate District 13. While there are several federal and state-level benefits available—from VA healthcare and education grants to employment programs—the reality is that many veterans still struggle to access timely care or transition smoothly into civilian life.

The Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs provides support through the Division of Veterans Affairs, which offers assistance with benefits, claims processing, and emergency financial aid. In addition, community-based organizations such as the Weld County Veterans Services Office and local American Legion posts play a critical role in connecting veterans with resources and support.

But even with these programs in place, the process is often slow, bureaucratic, and underfunded. Veterans have told me directly that they feel forgotten or burdened by red tape. That’s not acceptable—not in a state like ours, where we value freedom, service, and personal responsibility.

Supporting Veterans with Real Solutions, Not Red Tape

Just like with affordability, education, and crime, the path to real results for veterans is not through government overreach—but through practical, common-sense reforms. Our veterans deserve more than slogans. They deserve access to opportunity, dignity, and the tools to thrive in civilian life.

That’s why I support:

  • Removing barriers to veteran housing by cutting bureaucratic red tape and ensuring local and private organizations can provide transitional housing and home modification support without government interference.
  • Empowering workforce readiness programs that partner with businesses in trades, law enforcement, and skilled manufacturing industries that are vital to Colorado’s economy and ideal for veterans transitioning back into civilian life.
  • Protecting mental health care access by insisting on transparency, accountability, and provider flexibility, not more regulation. Veterans and their families need timely, competent care, not more layers of oversight from Denver.

These aren’t lofty promises. They’re achievable goals grounded in conservative principles: limited government, local control, and respect for service. I will continue fighting in the Colorado Senate to protect those values and deliver on behalf of every veteran in Colorado State Senate District 13.

What You Can Do: Memorial Day and Everyday Service in Brighton and Weld County

This Memorial Day, we’ll gather as a nation to remember those who gave everything in service to our country. But remembrance must come with responsibility.

Local events across Brighton, Greeley, and Weld County offer great opportunities for families to pay their respects and get involved:

  • Attend a local Memorial Day ceremony or parade. Townships across the district host flag-raising events, wreath layings, and veteran-led remembrances.
  • Volunteer with veteran support organizations. Groups like the VFW, American Legion, and Volunteers of America are always looking for community help.
  • Invite a veteran to speak at your local school or church. These conversations help younger generations understand sacrifice and service firsthand.
  • Support veteran-owned businesses in your neighborhood. Many of our veterans transition into entrepreneurship, and your support helps them thrive.

By engaging in these ways, we create a culture of respect and accountability, not through top-down mandates, but through community action and personal choice. That’s the kind of leadership we need in Colorado Senate District 13.

Our Veterans Deserve Action, Not Empty Promises

Freedom isn’t free—and those who have defended it deserve more than words. It’s time we turn appreciation into action by creating lasting support systems for Colorado’s veteran community. Whether through policy, local engagement, or simply showing up, every effort makes a difference.

I am committed to conservative values that prioritize service, personal freedom, and respect for those who defend them. Visit the Conservative Values page to see how I’m working to uphold these principles every day.

Get Involved

As always, I want to hear from you. Your voice matters in shaping the policies that impact our veterans and our future. If you’re passionate about supporting veterans or want to be more involved in these efforts, I encourage you to Get Involved today.

Let’s honor our heroes with real solutions, not symbolic gestures. Together, we can ensure that Colorado remains a place where veterans are respected, supported, and empowered to thrive.
