Freedom and Responsibility: A Post-4th of July Reflection on Conservative Values in Colorado

As we wrap up this year’s Independence Day celebrations, it’s worth pausing to reflect on what the 4th of July truly represents: a nation founded on freedom, and a citizenry responsible for protecting it. From Brighton to communities across Colorado State Senate District 13, the holiday served as a powerful reminder of the constitutional principles that unite us and the duty we share in defending them.

Freedom isn’t just a once-a-year sentiment; it’s a way of life. And as your representative in the Colorado Senate, I remain fully committed to advancing conservative values that uphold liberty, personal responsibility, and accountable government.

What Freedom Means in Today’s Political Climate

In today’s divided political climate, freedom is often redefined or ignored altogether. But our Founders made it clear: true freedom is grounded in individual rights, limited government, and self-governance, not mandates or ideological control.

That includes:

  • Protecting the Second Amendment: The right to bear arms is fundamental to self-defense and individual liberty. I continue to fight against Democrat-led efforts to restrict law-abiding citizens through arbitrary magazine limits and red flag laws without due process.
  • Defending free speech and religious liberty: The First Amendment exists to protect all voices, especially those grounded in traditional values and faith. In today’s culture of censorship, I will always stand up for your right to speak freely and worship without fear.
  • Preserving and Protecting Parent Driven Education.  Parents are the first and highest priority decision makers in the education of their children.  This priority will be protected fiercely to ensure that every child has the best chance to succeed.

Recent Legislative Action in District 13

Over the past session, I’ve worked to advance real, measurable results for families and communities in Colorado Senate District 13. Some highlights include:

  • Promoting school choice and career pathways so parents, not politicians, decide what’s best for their children
  • Cracking down on crime by advocating for an end to cashless bail, truth in sentencing, and the criminalization of fentanyl
  • Defending personal freedoms by opposing government overreach in healthcare, education, and small business regulation

These initiatives are rooted in the belief that freedom and accountability must go hand in hand. Learn more on the Issues page.

Keeping the Spirit of Independence Alive Year-Round

The 4th of July may be behind us, but our shared responsibility to preserve liberty continues every day. Here’s how you can help keep those values strong in your community:

  • Attend local legislative events and town halls
  • Stay informed on state-level issues affecting your family and business
  • Support grassroots efforts that promote traditional values and parental rights
  • Encourage respectful dialogue with neighbors, colleagues, and friends
  • Volunteer, donate, or get active in campaigns that reflect your principles

If you’d like to be part of our movement to protect conservative values in Colorado, I encourage you to Get Involved. Whether you have time to knock on doors, make calls, or share your story, your voice makes a difference.

Let’s Keep Fighting for What Matters

This year’s Independence Day reminded us that freedom is worth celebrating, but even more, it’s worth protecting. As your voice in the Colorado Senate, I’m committed to carrying that responsibility with integrity, urgency, and resolve.

Together, we can build a stronger, freer Colorado, where conservative principles aren’t just remembered on holidays but lived out every day.
