Hello, fellow Coloradans!
Staggering! Denver’s sanctuary city policies have cost that city’s taxpayers up to $340 million. This enormous financial burden has necessitated cuts to essential services, impacting not only Denver residents but ALL Coloradans. As a candidate for the Colorado State Senate, I believe it is time for our lawmakers to take this issue seriously and reconsider these far-left policies that are draining our resources.
The Impact of Sanctuary City Policies
Sanctuary city policies are designed to provide protections for undocumented immigrants, limiting local cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. More crime is not the only result of sanctuary policies. The costs associated with healthcare, education, housing, and other services for undocumented immigrants have skyrocketed, putting immense strain on the taxpayers.
According to estimates, Denver alone has faced up to $340 million in costs due to these policies. This financial strain has forced the city to make cuts to basic services that residents rely on, such as public safety, infrastructure, and community programs. However, the burden doesn’t stop at Denver’s borders. As the state capital, Denver’s financial woes affect all Colorado residents, as state funds are often reallocated to cover these shortfalls.
A Call for Responsible Governance
It is crucial for Colorado lawmakers to reevaluate these sanctuary city policies and their broader impact on our state’s finances and services. Here’s what I propose to address this pressing issue:
- Reassess Sanctuary Policies: We need a thorough review of the sanctuary city policies in place to understand their full economic impact and insist upon alternative approaches that properly prioritize Colorado residents.
- Ensure Fiscal Accountability: It’s vital that we have transparency in how funds are being allocated and spent in relation to these policies. Taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being used and to have assurance that it is being managed responsibly.
- Prioritize Essential Services: Our primary focus should be on ensuring that essential services such as public safety, healthcare, and education are fully funded and functioning efficiently. We cannot allow these critical areas to suffer due to the financial strain of sanctuary policies.
- Collaborate with Federal Authorities: No more sanctuary policies. We must cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
- Supporting Legal Immigration: We should continue to support and streamline the process for legal immigration, ensuring opportunity for those who come to Colorado the right way.
Join Me in Advocating for Change
The time has come for Colorado to reassess and reform its sanctuary policies. Cities and counties that insist on sanctuary policies should lose a portion of their funding from Colorado taxpayers. We must prioritize the needs and safety of our residents. Your support is crucial in this mission. For more information on my campaign and how you can get involved, please visit my website here.
Together, we can create a Colorado that is compassionate, safe, and financially sound.
